Biden-Harris Administration Gives $10 Million to Support Low-Income Renters

The U.S. government is giving $10 million in aid to help people with lower incomes who rent their homes. This help is aimed at folks living in places that get money from a special government program called Section 8 Project-Based Rental Assistance. 

With this funding, renters can learn more about their rights and get better at talking to the people who run their buildings. This way, they can help keep their homes safe and affordable.

This aid also makes it possible to start groups of renters who can work together to keep housing costs down for people with less money. This move is part of President Biden's and Vice President Harris's plan to make life better for renters in America.

Acting Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Adrianne Todman, says that the government wants to make sure families live in homes where they can do well. Getting renter groups involved in figuring out how to save affordable housing and make more of it is a big focus for them.

Julia Gordon, the Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner, mentioned that helping renters stand up for themselves is key to maintaining good living conditions in government-assisted homes. This money backs organizations that fight for renter rights and make sure homes are safe and don't cost too much.

A foundation focused on health care for people with AIDS is working with a group that supports renters in Massachusetts to use this money. They'll help about 30 renter groups grow stronger over the next two years. The groups that ask first will get the funds they need to keep working hard for affordable housing.

These funds will help renters talk better with those who manage their buildings, make sure the managers do their job right, and fight to keep rents low. The money can also be used for training, hiring helpers, buying supplies, and other things renter groups need to make sure homes are good places to live.
